In January of 2008, Ag-Networks will launch its Technology Greenhouse Collaboration
Environment in Georgia to foster the growth of young technology leaders within the
state. The collaboration model will consist of the company's executive management,
technology professionals, and Georgia Southern University faculty and staff working
together to provide an e-learning environment for budding young technologists from
the university. Ag-Networks' management will share insight in developing start-up
technology ventures, deploying and managing open source systems, intellectual property
protection, leveraging state and local resources, business networking, raising capital,
and other information important for entrepreneurs. Students will also gain experience
working on cutting-edge Internet technologies by working remotely with Ag-Networks
technology professionals in California's Silicon Valley where companies like Google
and E-bay were born.
"Creativity and growth will be the cornerstone of the enrichment students receive
when working within this environment. As a greenhouse does for plants, we want to
help develop the young technology professional by providing an atmosphere where
they obtain the knowledge and skill set to grow their own ideas," stated Michael
Hammond, Co-founder/CEO of Ag-Networks and Georgia Southern alumnus.
Aside from gaining working experience, students will obtain educational credits
necessary to obtain their degree. Under the tutelage of Ag-Networks' developers,
GSU student interns will contribute to the development of Ag-Networks products and
services without being uprooted from the friendly confines of the College of Information Technology building.
This arrangement will enable students to learn tricks of the trade from working
professionals as well as to take advantage of GSU faculty expertise. The opportunity
to complete an internship without leaving Statesboro should be appealing to students,
especially those who want a resume building experience that will set them apart
in the job market. The experience may also inspire students to launch their own
entrepreneurial ventures.
